Transmetropolition 5-7 (Warren Ellis & Darick Robertson)

This series really begins to pick up as Spider is directly threatened and actually has to engage in a continuing story, rather than sit on the sidelines and “report” on the world itself. Ellis gets a lot of mileage out of his future-world and its oddities but it's a relief to actually see him bring together a storyline, finally, that has real stakes and rising action while remaining original and fresh.
