The Hound of the Baskervilles (Arthur Conan Doyle)

Michael Chabon, in the other book I’m reading now, notes that in the Sherlock Holmes stories, “the quality of the writing itself [is] so much higher than it ever needed to be.” The Hound of the Baskervilles is my favourite of the Holmes stories, if only because the hound is so iconic. The Holmes stories, despite their flaws, remain as fun and exciting as ever.
